University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland (HES-SO) is the largest university of applied sciences in Switzerland and the second largest higher education institution of the country. With more than 20’000 students and 28 schools in 7 cantons, HES-SO is organised in six faculties: Health, Social Work, Business Management & Services, Engineering & Architecture, Design & Fine Arts, Music & Performing Arts. HES-SO comprises 10’000 employees, with approx. 700 FTE dedicated to R&D activities. It undertakes research projects with a wide range of partners, in Switzerland and abroad. Regarding European Framework Programmes, HES-SO has participated in 32 FP7 projects, including the MSCA-ITN EduWel, and is currently a beneficiary in 14 Horizon 2020 projects, covering the three pillars of the programme. In CHANGE, HES-SO will be represented by the research unit of its conservation school, the Haute Ecole Arc Conservation-restauration (HE-Arc CR). The institute is a member of Encore (European Network for Conservation-restauration Education) and one of the four higher education institutions in Switzerland of the Swiss ConservationRestoration Campus – Swiss CRC.
HE-Arc CR is equipped to investigate archaeological, ethnographic, technical, scientific artefacts and painted surfaces with optical microscopes, VIS-UV imaging at micro and macro scale, RTI, portable XRF, -FTIR and thermography. Access to a large laboratory facility to carry out physico-chemical characterization.
